We decided to compare the protagonist from our opening to the character called Casey, from the film 'The Call'. A girl in her late teens who also gets followed by a mysterious and psychotic, male character.
The protagonist from our opening is dressed in trendy costume as is the female from The Call. This represents the social group of teenage girls, she's coming home on a normal day not expecting what will happen soon, similarly to Casey in The Call who's walking through a car park after having done some shopping, soon after she gets kidnapped. We are able to present the age of our protagonist using costume of brightly coloured clothes and some sun glasses. This also creates a contrast between the protagonist and the antagonist.
The antagonist is dressed in all black covering her face. The use of a female character as the antagonist is to avoid creating something cliché, whereby the antagonist is usually an older male.
Through the use of costume and characters I think we were able to attract our targeted audience as I feel like female viewers aged between 17-20 years old, could almost picture themselves walking home and minding their own business. The fact that the costume consists of new and trendy clothes, the female demographic would be able to relate to the protagonist a lot more, therefore making them become more immersed in our opening. Our protagonist is playing a female character who is in her late teens, the costume we decided to use was to create a realistic feel to our opening, which would keep our audience eager to watch.
Although the antagonist is dressed in all black and covering her face it is obvious that she is a female however is not revealing her identity.
As the antagonist is another young female character, we are not conforming to the stereotype of a thriller and it would make the audience question as to what happened between the two characters to force the antagonist to break into the other females home and rummage through her items violently, in distress.
Overall our product is successful in representing a particular social group in which our targeted audience can relate to greatly.
