Evaluation 5- Jade

How did you attract/address your audience?

In the film industry, marketing is key for the film's possibilities of success or failure. In order to let the public know about our thriller film, we would need to use social media. Social media is a great source of communication to the public as millions of users sign up daily and use social media regularly. Films with a bigger budget than smaller independent films will have the ability to use their budget for large-scale marketing campaigns in many formats such as posters, trailers, tv adverts, social media pages etc.

We also used young actors to play the role of the antagonist and protagonist because this was the age demographic we wanted to reach for our audiences.

For the marketing campaign of a film, production companies will produce a trailer (or several) which are played in the forms of television adverts, on YouTube(as adverts before a video or posted by the company themselves), as trailers

before a film in the cinema etc. Trailers give a taster of what the film is about, giving an insight of characters, plot etc. without giving away spoiling details. Trailers are not very common with independent films however, they can be found on YouTube posted via the production company or they
can be found on social media sites or IMDb.

Posters can be found everywhere such as on buses, bus stops, train stations, billboards, cinemas etc. Posters usually show the main character/s, title and credits. They often also contain a tagline that suggests the atmosphere of the film and this can really reel in audience.

As you can see above, I have created my own poster and used the poster for Jessabelle (
Greutert, 2014)to try and acheive a similar, realistic poster. They contain striking resemblances such as the title being lower than the subject/s in the image, in large font. Also, the tagline is right underneath the title. At the bottom holds all the starring roles, production and distribution companies and all other credits. The only difference is the header as we are an independent film, our director would most likely not have directed any big, well-known films, so I placed the name of our main actor who would bring the marketing in.

Due to our demographic being mostly young teenagers, I decided to make a twitter for our film as teenagers use social media daily.
