On the Apple Macs we used Final Cut pro to edit our final product, as well as this I edited my preliminary task and other videos in which I answer questions or I explain new ideas. My knowledge of Final Cut Pro has improved greatly as I have experimented with it many times since I made my preliminary video. This was a very positive effect because by the time we got to editing our final product I felt very confident using the programme and it made editing and importing music a lot easier for myself personally.
The strengths and weaknesses of using the camera (Canon DSLR 650 eos) are that we took some brilliant shots and we were able to show the contrast between the two characters by using the camera only. However the weakness is that although we used white-balance on the camera, the image was still really washed out and white because it was very bright outside on the day that we fiilmed, however we were able to overcome this
problem when editing on Final Cut Pro.
I feel that our biggest problem in terms of the production process was the brightness outside, however through the continuous use of final cut pro I was able to learn how to edit the clip to reduce the brightness of the video so that the quality came out better.
Another strength of using the camera is that the recording quality was amazing however the audio quality was poor because it is built in to the camera. To overcome this problem we were given a microphone, which is also known as a 'dead rabbit'. However we chose to not use any dialogue in our opening and therefore we did not come across any issues with the audio quality.
Some of the programmes which I used in the making of our final product were: YouTube, Prezi, SlideShare and Blogger etc.
Using these programmes has allowed me to learn a lot about real media products / programmes. Not only did it help me with my media work, I will now also be able to use these programmes in the future for other reasons as I feel confident using all of these technologies.
Final Cut Pro enhanced our thriller a lot in my opinion because through that editing software we were able to add music, sound effects, titles and to reduce the brightness of the image. This in my opinion was the only area of equipment to help us with our product the most as we filmed outside in the sunlight therefore the torch was not necessary as well as the microphone as we did not use any audio.
This was also the most useful area of our overall mise-en-scene because in my opinion the contrast between both of the characters was the most important section of our opening and therefore we had to make sure that the brightness and quality of our image was perfect to make this contrast very obvious to the audience.
