Evaluation Activity 2)

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

CHARACTER 1 - FIRST CHARACTER INTRODUCED

ANTAGONIST- 'unknown'

Antagonist is first introduced...

- Gives the audience the sense of what genre the film is
 - The introduction of a villain gives suspense

- Black hoodie

connotations: young, teenager, youth, trouble, danger

Camera angle at the point-of-view of the villain. Gives the audience a sense of discomfort as they watch the protagonist from the perspective of the antagonist.

The face is never revealed - intrigues the audience - makes them want to watch more of the film. Conforms to a thriller genre.

  • Our antagonist was specifically chosen to be a female character. It adds a sense of mystery and dominance to the character as the victim is also a female.
  • A female character is not usually used for this type of role and therefore makes it different to other thrillers and intrigues the audience. It also adds a sense of mystery as the protagonist and antagonist are both female.

Can be compared to...

The Women in Black

The scene we used for our own opening could be compared with a scene from the film 'The Woman in Black' where an establishing shot of the house could result in the audience feeling uncomfortable due to its colors and the way it's being presented to the audience.

Costume comparisons:
Representations of characters

Our character is a typical teenage girl...

Since our protagonist is a white female, it adds that sense of innocence and the clothes highlight her femininity as she is slim, well-groomed and girly.

The costume conforms to a female character very well. It highlights her as being young, pretty and fashionable female protagonist, like the characters in these photographs from real movie products (eg, LOL and Pitch Perfect, The Call).
